Mind and body in endometriosis — breaking the surface, diving into the unseen.

A talk on endometriosis awareness, in collaboration with our reproductive & developmental biologist Ilayda Kerem and expert psychologist Lacin Baysen — exploring the mental and biological processes of endometriosis together.

In this discussion, we explored the multifaceted impact of endometriosis on reproductive health and its role in fertility treatment outcomes. We examined the biological mechanisms through which endometriosis may affect fertility, including its potential influence on oocyte quality, embryo development, implantation, and overall IVF success rates. Drawing on current scientific evidence, we also discussed how chronic inflammation and delays in diagnosis can contribute to long-term reproductive challenges and affect patients throughout their fertility journey.

Beyond the clinical aspects, the conversation focused on the physical and psychological burden experienced by individuals living with endometriosis. We addressed the impact of chronic pelvic pain, fatigue, repeated medical interventions, uncertainty, and infertility-related stress on overall quality of life. Particular attention was given to the emotional challenges that often accompany fertility treatment, including anxiety, emotional distress, social isolation, and treatment-related burnout, while exploring strategies that may help patients build resilience and navigate these experiences more effectively.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Topics included the role of nutrition, physical activity, stress management, psychological support, and lifestyle interventions in promoting both physical recovery and mental well-being. Ultimately, the aim was to emphasize that endometriosis should be viewed not only as a gynecological condition but also as a complex health issue that can significantly affect a patient's quality of life, requiring comprehensive, patient-centred care and support throughout the reproductive journey.
